Find Books at the TYS Library

1. Search for the title in the MS/SS Library catalogue:

2. Is the book available?

  • Once you have right-clicked on the book, below will indicate the number of copies available in the library to sign-out.

3. Which section is it in?

  • For print books, check the book's catalogue record to learn which sublocation (section) the book belongs to:

  • Follow the signs on the library shelves to find that section, and check the sublocation spine label on the book itself.

  • Note: The "MS/SS Library" sublocation usually means that the book is part of our nonfiction collection. These books can be found on the shelves on the righthand side of the library, as well as the low shelves in the front.

4. Where is it on the shelf?

  • For print books, check the book's catalogue record to find its call number. The call number printed on the spine label matches the one you will find in the catalogue.

  • For fiction books, titles are shelved in order by the author's last name within each genre section. The call numbers for all fiction books will start with "FIC".

  • For nonfiction books, titles are shelved first by the Dewey Decimal number, then (in cases where titles have the same number) by the author's last name.

Tip: If you've found the call number of a nonfiction book you're interested in reading, try looking at the books shelved around it. The items close by should related to your topic of interest.
