Summer Reading Program: Activities

Here you will find all of the activities you can do over the summer! Give Ms. Larcina proof that you've completed at least 3 activities to be entered into a random prize raffle.

What is "proof"? Show that you've done the activity by taking a picture or video, by drawing, painting, writing, or by any other creative expression.

The Activities

Re-create a book cover using stuff from home! Take a picture of your cover to give to Ms. Larcina.

Book cover re-creations must-haves:

  • The original book cover (either a physical copy of the book or a picture of the book)
  • A short description with the title and why you chose this book

Pick a book and redesign the cover in a way that would make other people want to read it!

Book cover must-haves:

  • Title
  • Author and illustrator
  • Must be in color
  • At least 1 picture or drawing

Find a book whose cover has a face, head, or other body part and take a picture with it to make it seem like it's part of you! Here are some fantastic examples from Forest Park Preparatory School.

If you can't find any of your own books to use, ask your siblings or adults for one of theirs!

If you could pick ANY 2 characters from ANY book to battle, who would it be? Who would win and why would they win? Design a scene or battle cards to show these characters facing off.

Who would win must-haves:

  • Character names
  • Drawing or picture of the characters
  • List of each character's strengths and weaknesses
  • A short description of who would win and why

Not sure what a character's strength or weakness is? Here are some examples:

Anne of Green Gables

Strengths: imaginative, resourceful, caring of others

Weaknesses: daydreams a lot, holds a grudge, cares about her looks too much

Captain Underpants

Strength: superpowers, determined, fights for justice

Weaknesses: he's a baby, he wears only diapers

Create a short story! Choose ONE of the following writing prompts to continue the story (use the sentence as your opening line):

  • Outside the window, you see something you can't believe
  • As quietly as he could, he slipped out of bed and tiptoed down the hall
  • She lay on her back on the grass, staring up at the sky, when it came to her
  • The dog barked loudly at the woods, when suddenly ....
