Welcome to our Middle & Senior School Summer Reading Programme page! Here, you can access recommended reading lists and learn how participate in reading activities throughout the summer.
The program will run from June 20th until September 2nd. Students may join in immediately or jump into the program at whatever date they choose.
No, the program isn’t mandatory. Students may choose to complete only the Book Bingo or the Reading Log. While the program starts in June, students may jump in any week.
All York School students in Gr. 6+, including new students, are welcome to join the program. There is no need to register. Once you've completed your Bingo Card or Reading Log, email to Mr. Regner (or deliver it in the first week of the fall term) with your full name.
There are two ways of participating in the program, and students are welcome to do one or both of the following:
Runs for the duration of the summer. Anyone who successfully completes 4 squares in a row (horizontal, diagonal, vertical) and submits their bingo card to Mr. Regner in the first week of the fall term (either by email or handing in a print copy) will be entered into a raffle.
In addition to the bingo card, students must provide evidence of their fulfilled squares through pictures (of the activity or book completed) or through a quick book talk (video or virtual/in-person check-in with Mr. Regner).
Students track the time they spend reading over the course of the summer in their Reading Log, and will have a chance to earn points for the total number of hours they read. If they wish to earn points for their reading, they must submit their Reading Log to Mr. Regner in the first week of the fall term (either by email or handing in a print copy).
Based on the number of points they have accumulated by the end of the program, students will be entered into one of four raffles for various prizes. They will receive their prizes via email or in-person in the second week of the fall term.
The points earned for total reading time as documented in the Reading Log is calculated as follows:
50 points / 30 minutes read
There will be four raffle prize draws for those who have earned points from the reading log, with multiple winners for most 'tiers' of the draw. For each tier, winners will be chosen randomly, and will be eligible to choose from available prizes based on the order their name is drawn.
