Style Guide: Online journal articles

A handy guide to show you how to properly format references and in-text citations for all your resources in APA style

Reference List

Online journal articles

Author, A., & Author, A. (Year). Title of article. Title of Journal, Volume(Issue), page. DOI/ URL

Do not use "p" or "pp" before the page numbers.

The DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is the unique code that identifies and links to the article. If available, always include it. Only include a URL in place of a DOI if the URL will allow the reader to view the article. Otherwise, if there is no DOI, treat the resource as a print resource and end the reference after the page numbers.

In the absence of contributor/edit date information, treat the page as a source with a group author and use the abbreviation "n.d." for "no date":

Purdue Online Writing Lab. (n.d.). Title of resource. Purdue Online Writing Lab. http://Web address for OWL resource

In-text citation
